IN TIMES OF WAR: RAY PARKER'S STORY
On his 10th mission, Ray Parker’s B-24 bomber was shot down over enemy territory. Quickly captured by the Germans, he was interned at Stalag Luft 1. There, Ray was asked to secretly write the underground newspaper. He knew he was risking his life but he believed the paper was the best way to keep up the spirits of the 9,000 Prisoners Of War confined there.
Ray was able to get timely information with the help of a radio hidden in a wall of the British barracks.

LETTERS TO DEFIANCE
During WWII Sgt. Francis Seibert of Defiance, Ohio was stationed in Amarillo, Texas as an Air Force instructor training men to become aircraft mechanics for the B-17 and B-29 bombers. He wrote to his family daily but thought his letters were boring, so he started illustrating the envelopes with cartoons. His mother saved all 614 of these wonderful letters.
In his correspondences Fran wrote about multiple topics, from his first Christmas away from home to the dropping of the first atomic bomb. Throughout all of his letters his underlying message was how important family is.
